As far as going down the road pretty much everything you said on top of the scenery.
Remember that scene in Stir Crazy when the prison guard put Gene Wilder in the hot box? Three days later they went to get him out and he begged for one more day because he was close to finding his inner self. Truck drivers do that when they are in the middle of nowhere like Kansas, lol. That or think about a project or hobby and do things in your mind before you actually do it. Truckers have all kinds of tricks to pass time.MZdanowicz, Tonythetruckerdude and J_FROG Thank this. -
Personally I concentrate on my driving. No Music, No CB when driving, I don't Text ever and my phone is switched off.. You can call it boring... But I'm still breathing and still driving and the only accident I was involved in was over 30 years ago when a Motor Cycle clipped the front wing whilst trying to cut between lanes.
Numb, fr8te_sh8ker, Twicebit and 2 others Thank this. -
Pilgrim007 and Twicebit Thank this.

All sorts of stuff you can do as far as hobbies if you got slack time. A lot of your time will be spent restocking or doing laundry. Get a hobby. If I was to go back OTR now I would probably bring a knife to finish working on, but they sell kits also where you basically just put them together and finish them up, maybe put your own personal touches on them. I've seen big burly dudes knitting/crocheting (don't know the difference) in the TS lounge. Do whatever you think you might be interested in and have time for.

Went for a 5 mile walk to Walmart, bought a few things then walked 5 miles back. Wondered around the local flea market on the way back. Got back, ate breakfast, now I'll clean and work on the truck a little bit. Then who knows. Watch a movie or maybe some football.

First and foremost is tracking your sleep time. Meaning sometimes you need to force yourself to rest. You'll find this out as you're trying to perform normal everyday work related tasks.
Keeping a positive mind with co-workers back at dispatch. What I like to do sparetime is geocache.com.
I can plan ahead with my laptop by picking out cache' that interest me. for excersize I like jumping jacks , squat thrusts and crunches by the truck and don't forget that TA has workout rooms! Hey,,Can't sleep? Excersize til you drop,,,plus I skydive, kayak, hunt, fish and just love explore the outdoors with camera nearby.
