If you can, make your move first. It would complicate the matter to transfer CDL to Michigan & then to a different state. Plus, this takes time, and once you start with your first company, you may not want to be asking for time off in the beginning to take care of the CDL issue. Then the trucking company has to change your new address on their records, benefits package, insurance, etc. Also, will the new address/state, even be in hiring area of the trucking company you sign on with.

I have a similar question. I live in Mississippi, and I want to go to Missouri to get my CDL A. Can I? Do I get my permit in Missouri, then take my driving test there, then transfer it when I get home in Mississippi?

I live in VA went to driver solutions school in IN. Used my VA address to get a IN license, w/ my VA address on it. Not sure how that's possible? Or legal?

The way Prime USED TO DO IT, NOT NOW, was students showed up in MO, Prime gave them letter that MO accepted as proof of MO residence and student got abpermit. Then student went to CDL school & trained and then took test in MO and went back to their home state. Then "student" followed their home state regulations & procedures to switch CDL from MO. I don't know their procedure NOW.

It's all a matter of each state's law & regulations. IL is a stickler.

IL and OH are neighboring states, yet SO on different pages. Not sure, but I'm thinking she's gonna have to jump thru Ohio's hoops and retest with an address here. Otoh, if she's going company, say Swift or Prime, follow the rules of "their" schooling procedures. She may be looking at redundancy and a waste of time and money otherwise. More info as to what/whom for she'll be driving would be helpful, for us to help you help her!!!

^^^^^ Wife calls that state ILL and ANNOYED .... LoL~! You got any info on the Ohio CDL Jim? I'm pretty sure she's gonna have to take it here again, but it's been so long for me I don't recall. I got grandfathered in and then STILL had to recert / retest in 2003. I can't remember back that far and it's probably changed~!
