They have the right to question the validity but the Dr. can't legally even give out the fact that the driver is a patient. Waiting for my first inspection years ago I saw something similar. But he was checking to see if the Dr. was legit. Soon all states will be the clearing house for this and the medical person conducting the exam must be certified.

But, if I might...
What is the significance of DOT rules specifically aimed at drivers who are in service, if those same rules fall away if the driver is using the vehicle in a manner consistent with personal use/conveyance?
If I drive 11 hours, drop the loaded trailer, and then BT 300 miles home how is that consistent with the idea of safety and HOS rule making?
Seems to be a logic disconnect there, if you ask me.... -

Why has the government felt the need to mandate it?
I'm all for voluntary adoption, if you want it for your operations that's fine. I'd like the freedom to decide whether implementation is beneficial, and the ability to decline using EOBR's, should I choose to. -
In the end, if the CSA system stays as is they won't need a mandat. It is getting harder and harder to maintain a good CSA score on HOS if you don't run them. What is going to happen when 60% of trucks are running them? A couple minor violations and you are an 80%. -
Why, after raising hogs for 15 years do i need to all of a sudden need to take a class like EVERY OTHER PORK PRODUCER, if I was doing nothing wrong? This is an apples to apples analogy as well.
Because some dolts couldn't care two licks about where the stuck a needle to put required medication in a hog, sometimes breaking needles, sometimes overdosing, sometimes using the wrong meds.
Since they aren't gonna stand up and say, Ya. That was me over here, just like the violators won't fess up.

No carrier has been forced to use e-logs by FMCSA.(coerced by monetary fines, yes) They chose to use them during mediation to reduce further/eliminate administrative fines. All fines in a compliance review are subject to mediation(if requested) Reduced amounts for payment in full, monthly payments, even reduced amounts paid over time.
Any violations found by an auditor can be contested/reviewed. They do make mistakes.
E-log or paper, any decent auditing system will give all the violations with a single click. The auditor will could care less about that. An auditor still has to verify the logs(either one)against fuel, pu, delivery, tolls, ect times.
And e-logs can be manipulated without anything showing. That's why they still have to use other reference points.trees, BigBadBill, Steeleandsonfarms and 1 other person Thank this. -
The difference being the flexibility of paper, and the ability of the flexor, is being shifted.
The elog will be "adjusted" by the safety department post trip, making sure that as many time stamps line up as possible...I can see why the bigs like it....Foxcover Thanks this. -
It's all about appearance.
The Gov appears to be interested in safety, the Bigs appear to be equally concerned, the public is placated..
Transportation Sec whoever gets to say, "This is a great day, we have worked together with our partners within the transportation community and have made the nations highways and byways safer now, than at any point in history"
While building in a rigidity that is inflexible on the drivers side, while maintaining flexibility for the compliance dept.
It's why I hate baby kissing politicians, the deceitful sob's don't like shaking hands and kissing babies, they like you thinking that they like shaking hands and kissing babies...
And mark my words, there will be no flexibility or forgiveness with elogs. They will have a transponder that reads your log as you approach the scale....
