I wouldn't touch that lead for under 7000, and I'm leased to a carrier. So if anything, you're rate is way too low. But sadly this industry is filed with guys who will gladly take that load for the offered 4800.

$4800 is laughable. That offer is designed to make $5800 good by comparison.

2800x2=5600, $5800 might be in play for some....mid to high 6's is better...lol...

At 58 I'm mildly interested, can't say yes, but can't say no either....

    mmmmm....tell you what,

I'll say "yes", to 65 right now. If you want to book that load I'll say "yes", but it has got to be 65 RIGHT NOW.

    mmmm, I dunno....

But I think I'm gettin it at 65...lol....

I'm high enough to make some coin, and low enough to win the bid.

Depends on the time of day.

Spyder is in play if it's late in the day.

But it's all mine if it's right before lunch time.

Do you think broker is bluffing? Was first told usually moves for $4400. I was fairly shocked. I simply said thanks for your time and that was that. If it's still posted tomorrow guess who will be contacting the same broker

Nope, I don't think he is bluffing. I bet he gets it covered most of the time for 4400. Math is not a strong suit for a good portion of people out here we gotta compete with. One of the reasons I'm on the flatbed side of trucking, seems to have less of the run at any rate folks.

They are all just fishing until it gets serious. Last Friday I called a regular broker about a load very similar to one I did for them a month ago. He said "What do you need?" I said $2,000. I get the "Ohhhh, we can only pay $1200". I said "I did the same run last month for $2,000 and now it's only worth $1200?" Silence....."that must have been a hot load".

So I called again yesterday on the same load. I am still at $2000 and they are at $1600. I could have done it for $1600 and made a good profit. But I had a good floor established with them at $2,000 ($3.70/mile IIRC) and I didn't want to ruin it. They always go back and look at your history.

Today he called me wanting to know if I can still do it. Nope the truck is covered. That happens all the time with these guys. Next time I will remind them what happened this time.

His only motivation is to sell the load to you for as low of cost as possible. Doesn't matter if he's lying or being truthful. The old "we've been moving them for blah blah blah" is just part of the standard pitch. Don't get too caught up in the pitch. The only details that matter in the pitch are phrases like "well we need to get this one covered" or "they're on me to get this one done". When you hear that if you hem and haw as if practically disinterested but stillleave the door open that you might take it. Then you might hear more similar desperation phrases. That's the opening for an arm twisting. Other than that you should know exactly what you need so everything else they say to you is mostly blah, blah, blah, blah.

Y'know that awkward silence where he is trying to get you to say the next word? Don't.

make a second phone ring......tell a coworker not to cover that truck until you finish the call you're on......put them on hold......have fun with it.

Y'all a breath of fresh air.

guys that are new to your op authority, hell even guys that are old to having your own authority and not sure how to negotiate........ Listen to these gentlemen , you will thank them in the future.
$2.00 a mile is not a magical #..... You will get more if you try .
