Probably neither, the individual truck driver is probably more concerned about meeting deadlines, than being worried about the impact of the railroads.
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!Tb0n3 Thanks this. -
With the reduction of rail served manufacturing, the railroad is very dependent on trucks for the 'final mile' deliveries.
Trucking understood inter-modal before containerization occurred.alds, Flat Earth Trucker and bzinger Thank this. -
We work in tandem. Never seen union pacific back into a dock
alds, Flat Earth Trucker, bzinger and 1 other person Thank this. -
I have. It's not many places, but there are plants that ship and receive directly off the rail.
The railroads, air freight, and trucking... all competitors, but yet work together.
The expansion of rail over the last couple decades is a contributing factor in the rates not even keeping with inflation.
Living in an area where rail traffic is very heavy, trains have become something I hate to see. You never know when one is gonna stop, blocking almost every intersection for 2 miles, and sit there for an hour or more. If you're in a truck, in the wrong place, you're stuck, till they decide it's time to move.Tb0n3, alds, Brettj3876 and 4 others Thank this. -
Well yes i have seen that to . Where they ship directly off the rail and/or raw materials come from cars which the factory or plant turns those raw materials into the products that are then loaded on trucks. But usually the rail is not offloading where the end consumer is purchasing the product. Which was my point. There will always be trucks needed... it sucks getting stuck behind a train. But it would suck more if there were no more trains and that much more trucks would be on the highwayFlat Earth Trucker, bzinger and PoleCrusher Thank this.

We learned a few months ago, that it's not trucks causing traffic congestion.

I agree . Grandpa was a locomotive engineer so i always love seeing the trains.650cat425 and PoleCrusher Thank this.

When it comes to freight, it's just business. And yeah, the trains themselves are incredible machines.
I wonder what would happen if trucking companies started doing trailer switches in the middle of the road? I mean, if one freight hauling business can do it, all freight hauling businesses should be able to. -
Hell i wouldnt be surprised lol , they are already doing it at the fuel island
PoleCrusher Thanks this.
