How do we change things, not just "fix" them industry wide?

There’s nothing to fix. It’s not going to change. There are good paying sectors in trucking still. Get into one of those and your set.

I have put in almost 50 years as a driver and O/O and have made a very decent living in the trucking industry.Have things changed in the past 50 years.......yes they sure have but nothing stays the same after 50 years.Still lots of good trucking jobs out there if a person takes the time to look. It's all about what you make of it.

    The industry is slowly dying.
There is no reviving of 'the corpse'.
The TuSimple driverless type solution will emerge in a decade or two in a viable commercial form.
We are being replaced and there is no solution to it.
Do you remember an AT&T operator?
    How about the milk-man?

I could be wrong of course.
If you think I am, please let me know.
I'm retired since 11.14.2021. Forcefully retired.

If you’re 68+ , you should be retired by now.

Low Driver Pay, Huge Costs for the carriers, and ABSOLUTELY NO ONE GIVES A ####!

Going on 4 months in the office now, middle management at a medium sized carrier, I've never seen such apathy in an industry. I mean yea I knew it was bad at Bison, and yea it was sort of bad at IHaul, but now that I see the "big picture" like #### me; its everyone. Customers, Dispatch, Brokers, Docks, Customs, of course the Government, Drivers, Shunts, Dock Guys (even our in house cross docks), Dealerships, Trailer Places, CBSA etc etc etc.....Its like everyone is just going thru the motions, putting in time, waiting (hoping) to die...yikes!

Trying to stay positive, but its bloody tough. No one with half a brain wants to do this anymore, so its all desperate foreigners, and there is absolutely no shortage. I try to stay out of the HR/Recruiting side of things, but my office is next door, and its just a constant stream. We could hire 400 drivers tomorrow, no problem; 300 of them would be in the ditch by weeks end tho.

I think the whole thing either needs to collapse, or go robot trucks and re-invent itself entirely, cause nothing can change or fix this, absolutely nothing.

I also work at what I consider to be a "good company" prob one of the best in Canada IMHO, and its still this bad. If it wasn't for the people here, and my relationship with the owners, I would already be back doing electrical, even if it paid less. Also I have a nice office, and ride my motorbike to work, since all I carry now is my lunch kit, so there is that lol.

Also a steer tire is $1400/ea now, downright painful writing PO's for those.
