If he doesnt mind doing a little work for his paycheck call Watkins Shepard, he'll get plenty of miles and MUCH better money then swift, and we can idle 24/7. :biggrin_2559:

We have a terminal in Dalton, GA just north of ATL.

Quoted for truth. I got on with my company(smaller regional company) when I approached them. While they did have a couple of open trucks, they didn't advertise for it as they like it when people do their research them and find them. Usually the sign of a motivated person who does their research. BTW they were the only company I talked to that actually conducted a face to face interview (with the owner) versus a 10 minute phone conversation with a recruiter that you never meet. I would be pretty apprehensive about shipping off to an orientation several hundred miles away for what essentially is a week or 2 long "tryout" to maybe get a job. My "orientation" was 2 days and I spent only a week with a TE before being handed they keys. a little legwork goes a long way. Try to go beyond the "usual suspects".

I currently work for a CR England( i know they suck), but i am on one of their dedicated fleets. I have learned in the last 9 months or so if you want to make any decent money and home time you need to look into dedicated fleets. i make more running 2000 miles a week than a company otr guy makes running 3000+. also DM's in the dedicated fleets take better care of the drivers. I am home every two weeks for about 3 days, so i cant complain.

The key to finding a carrier that fits what you are looking for is questions, questions, and more questions. Whenever I have been searching, I look at a carrier like a business would look at another business that they were looking at partnering with. What is their business model? How much sales staff and territories (this will gave an effect in the loads and frequency)? What speed do they dispatch at? That will tell a lot right there, are they planning runs properly, the quality of customers they are hauling for, etc. If a carrier can't answer that one right out of the gate, then bye-bye. You can really tell if they know what they are doing as well. There is no way, given breaks, weather, construction, traffic, etc that a truck can "average" over 50-55 mph every hour, every day.

It's those little details that tell the story, and not what is in the glossy truck ad or the standard recruiter lines. You have to dig deep to find gold.

Roehl has a terminal in Ellenwood you might check them out as well. The first thing I would do is make a list of what is important to your husband and your family. How many miles are you looking for? Keep in mind you can also make good money with shorter runs if you can keep rolling. What are the little things that drive your husband up the wall? Once you have a list of what you want and don't want start researching companies. A good place to start is on this forum, not the "Report a bad trucking company." Look under the truck dac reports, these are like virtual drivers lounges for each company.
