In house financing is sometimes helpful if you have some dings on your credit report. And once you establish yourself with them and stay in good standing you can go back. Plus once you get some equity built up if you have a major breakdown they probably would work something out with you. Also any changes and or repairs to the truck you want done have MHC do them. Expensive maybe (you have to do your homework) but kenworth stands behind parts and labor for 1 year nationwide. When I say changes this could be drive fenders, trans, brakes have that done, added into the deal. Prior to taking delivery.

I got quite the discount on parts from MHC kenworth in Wisconsin thru my company.

Would I ever buy a truck off them?
    No.

But I enjoyed the ample parts I resold for a little profit. Seriously I got 60% off on a lot of crap....advantage mega company driver. "Former big rig driver that is"

Prob got the best service repair out of MHC's and the one over in Huber Ohio. Not speedy but they did it correctly.

no just trying to better understand the reasoning behind the negative responses. I may agree with the replies if I dig deeper.

Is it a good idea to buy from them and have a third party make repairs.

From my understanding from old timers. Either go to a small shop that does good work with less overhead and prices or go to your truck engine manufacturer like cummins or Cat. They say dealerships have one goal in mind and that's to sell trucks. Your in Tennessee so I'd assume it should be some pretty good shops even if it's 2-3 hours away from the house. Heck you can find a local mechanic to at least do your PMs and change parts and have the shop do the mechanical things like engine trans and rears. Ask around

A deal is a deal regardless where it comes from. Some people trade in as a matter of convenience and you know how that usually works to the favor of a dealer. They have a lot more room on used than they do brand new. But it's more a matter of how quickly or slowly they're flying off the lots really.

But they are going to throw a high number at you regardless how quick or slow trucks are selling. Same as me quoting high in a dead market. You never know what might stick until you ask. I bought from Rush in Nashville. It was a bad experience after the fact but that was my own fault mostly for not being thorough on my homework.

They did have a customer good will policy. My water cooled Trans cooler was leaking 2 weeks after I bought the truck so I took it back. For no charge they installed a brand new air cooler but I signed off on it as being "in good order and no further good will would be extended" or something legalese like that. I would be surprised if MHC did not also have a similar policy.

As far as shop rates go at least they are honest about what they charge $150 an hour. Most places will say $75 or some such then overbill hours or not stand behind the work having to do it over again, or you pay somewhere else... ...that said, avoid using their shops for anything. They will charge $150 an hour and inflate the hours, thought everyone was wrong, and so I got the t-shirt

If you buy Paccar engine then you are pretty much screwing yourself in having to use KW or Pete dealers only. At least with a Cummins you can go to a Cummins house. The only shop I ever deal with is the local CAT house. They charge $115 an hour but they do good work and don't screw around.

MHC ain't all bad. I got treated right at the OKC shop with a suspension repair. The Carrier reefer shop in Kansas City, KS. is also MHC and very good.

A lot of Freightliner shops are skilled at overcharging. These companies make a lot of proprietary items, specialized equipment and the tools to use/maintain, so they know you have to come to them sooner or later. That's when they start gouging. Oh well. Them, the state and local governments, the DOT, local municipalities, PFJ, TAP, Love's, they all gouge truckers. It gives us a sense of community.

Find truck! Agree on price of truck! Tell sales person you want certain repairs or modifications done to truck. Request a written quote on repairs and mod's. Bargain with sales over cost of repairs. Add cost of repairs into the truck purchase deal. Keep working while dealers shop fixes your new truck. When truck is done close the deal and go to work.

Tend to think their trucks are overpriced but will work with them on parts because they tend to have a large stock ready to go, so, no wait time. Parts can be a little expensive, but, then again, go to any OEM for parts and they can be.
