How do you find mobile mechanics

You would be wise to visit all the bathrooms at each scale house to put several of your business cards inside so when they use the bathroom they see your name.

Word of mouth is the usual way. When I’m parked and see a mobile mechanic I chat with him a bit and if I like him I ask for a business card. I have one in just about every major city. My main mechanic just runs out of his suv and he’s booked for work so much sometimes it’s getting hard to get him now haha.

 

You aren't likely to make much of a living doing just breakdown stuff. Most if the mobile mechanics I've met do a lot of regular maintenance/pm work for small companies that don't want to deal with taking trucks to a shop for that stuff.

Get with those small companies. Get an online presence. Get in touch with the big nationwide companies that do roadside service through local shops. Hire a company to get your name to show up when people Google mobile mechanics in your area. Get to know the folks at the local truck stops and make sure they have a supply of your business cards.

 

As a company driver I notify my dispatch of a breakdown. They coordinate the tow and repairs if needed.

OK I found one mobile guy who does some work for us in the south by having work done at a shop, he is affiliated with the shop, they give him leads and he pays them a finders fee out of the final bill. Another mobile guy I use up here just showed up at the truck stop and advertised he will do oil changes and routine stuff while you are on your ten, was cheap for an oil change, 15% less than what the T/A and Speedco was charging. I have him come in every once in a while and go through the yard trucks for me to keep them running.

 

Other than Google you might contact Rand McNally. I have found mobile repair services twice in the last two years by using the search feature on my Rand McNally GPS.

 

I use my gps or do just a search on Google. ..... most of the large companies have pre approved service people I am not sure what is involved in getting on the list ...... you also become certified to do landstar dot inspection also they are adding new mobile repair companies for trailer repairs ( landstar doesn't own any trucks just trailers ) every bco has to be dot inspected every 120 days and altogether these don't pay all that much it can lead to a lot of work
