Hi every one Gabe here, been in the HVAC buisness for 18years and decided to quit my job one day and do what i've allways wanted to do drive a truck. Well i went to a CDL school i paid $3500 for, graduated in October and since then went broke. Heres how, had a job with TransAm and declined it to go drive for my uncle thats a owner/operator has his own loads through a broker service, well all sounds good but uncle is not that energetic on working [wich i dont blame him hes drove for 43years on his own] he says that in spring hes going to turn the truck over to me but the pay isnt going to be much different than any were else. so i decided to look at other trucking co for steady work. the problem is uncle paid me in cash and no one is reconiseing my experiance they say its not verifiable because there are no pay stubs and they wont take a letter from him and they want me to go back to a school because most policy's are hire out of a school from 0-45 days. would verry much appretiate your feed back.
    thaks , Gabe

When you say your uncle paid you in cash, do you mean under the table or 1099?
If he 1099s you, you would have to pay the taxes on your earnings, but you would have verifiable experience.
If he 1099's from just before you started school, you may be able get a tax deduction for your schooling.

I was a 1099 sales person before going into school and just found out from my accountant that I can claim it... I was very surprized since truck driving school had nothing to do with what I was doing... but hey, I'll take it...

Also, talk to smaller fleet owners and smaller companies... They are different tha the big companies.

Is he going to give you the truck outright? If so you may want to run under his authority. I'm sure he has many broker contacts. High insurance may be your only obstacle if you get your own authority.

hello gabe : now you find yourself in a position that is caused bye the times we are going thrue. the econamy is bad and a lot of drivers and owner operators have lost there jobs that why these rediculess companys come up with these stupid requiremnts that are totally unnessary, now they can pick and choose.

you will find when the econamy starts to recover and drivers get back to work these and these same compnys cant find anyone to drive there junk all thse restrickions will become a thing of the past.

even now all companys are not lke that just keep looking some one will hire you there are a few good companys out there not a lot but a few.

just dont give up my friend you never lose till you quit, best of luck to you. southernpride

why dont you just keep running with his authority? Does the authority come with the truck? Isn't the pay atleast what you were making working for him?

Gabe, you have the opportunity staring you in the face that alot of drivers would give a limb for. If your Uncle has been doing it that long he knows what he's doing do let him teach you as much as he can and do as already suggested learn his clients and such and you could really set yourself up for your trucking career if you do it right. Good Luck keep us posted.
