There are good and bad brokers, just like the rest of the industries, but without brokers there'd be much less freight for the small carrier. It's because the broker must source his trucks from other than a mega-fleet bottom feeder, a lot of us get to eat and pay for the light bill, hell maybe even earn a good living. I run both direct freight and spot, and without the spot market and brokers to fill their role, it'd be hard(er) for me to make the loop and be back for a reload with my fronthaul customer.
