here's where people mess up in business. they get a product and a store front. and they don't come up with a system for the business first. knowing sales and how to sale is important. knowing how to market the product or service. knowing the numbers you need to keep the business afloat on. that's important. so how do you get freight without brokers. that is called cold sales. pretty much you can either go door to door soliciting. or you can do cold call sales. 2 important rules of sales. get 3 nos and move on. 1 in 10 people will buy. a good way to learn sales. is go sale something that people don't need or want. like perfume or vacuum cleaners. that is door to door sales. it's alot of fun. you'll learn alot about people and sales. you will also learn how to read people and how to sale them on your product or service. you'll also learn to expect the unexpected in business, people and sales. a good place to start. is a book titled sales dog 101. it teaches about the different types of sales and sales people.

successful businesses are ran by salesmen.

Another way to get new business is to "dress for success". Have some nice shirts monogramed with your company name on it. Your a "professional" so it helps to look the part. Also, giving a business card to potential customers and maybe some hats with your company name on it.
At work this week a small tooling company passed out nice hats to everybody. I'd never heard of the company, but now everyone in the plant knows who they are and what they make.

Hell yeah. This is the best response I have seen yet. Answered a lot of questions I had, even though its 6 years old HA. Been doing some homework and trying to tap myself into the business of becoming an o/o. I understand I have a long way to go but I have time. I'm 24, I live in the chicago area near all sorts of rail yards, terminals, and intermodals. So my question is, is there a future in this business with staying local and sometimes regional? My wife is ill, so its important I don't go too far for too long.
