I am looking for a career that pays, money, i've been collecting disability since I was 30 for a diagnosed psychosis, I am 38 now, Had a paranoid episode a couple of times. But I've been on medication since 2011 prescribed to people with bi-polar and people in the family of schizophrenia, (psychosis), I am definitely not chronic and I feel I am not doing enough. I actually lowered my dose the past two years and moved to Portland and was hoping to find a good paying career out there.I did find a job, part-time to keep the disability coming in but it's a hipster town, lots of young progressive people and rent if rising through the roof out there. I have no wife or kids, just a large family in Ohio (where I just moved back to) whom I only see on the Holidays, mainly because i'm too broke to afford a car. Just got an apartment but rent is significantly lower than Portland rent. Been living on my own since I was 23.
I am an adult 38, have a clean criminal history , have an associates degree and even 10 or so classes short of a bachelors. I understanding trucking is more of a lifestyle and you live on the road, shower on the road when you fuel up. I am willing to take the leap and dedicate my life to it if need be so I can earn some money.
getting my CDL-A,: A company based out of Utah is willing to pay for my training as long as I sign a year contract. I really want to be a responsible driver and do the best I can within the limits of an 11 hour drive day And see how far I can take this career so I can invest money in stocks and hopefully a retirement one day.
I know I can go a year without my medication no problem but just in case any kind of psychosis returns. Paranoid thinking. I would like to stay on my medicine if possible , I am very stable and I was a confused 27 year old when diagnosed with a lot of questions. I was on the internet everyday, I wanted to be actor, I want to be an artist, and people were hacking my ip and messing with me or maybe I made it all up in my head. Very confused by all this and i'll admit was a bit delusional because that's the only way I could make sense of it all. So my point in typing this is I have had 8 solid years of popping pills for my mental health and have worked around all my problems and I am fine now but some things could resurface if I didn't take my medication, (say the doctors and family. common knowledge to anyone who has had mental health problems in their family)
But I am willing to take the risk, I am 38 still fairly young and by the time I decide to go work for this company for year when I sign my contact i'll be close to 39.
Too make a long story short.,being on the road everyday after my first year and I decide I like it and want to continue. How would I get prescribed by a psychiatrist? especially if I have to make appointments to get my prescriptions.... I can get refills for 3 months or so. But right now another long story, i'm actually trying to taper off anxiety medicine, been on those for 5 years and it was because of a side effect from the anti-psychotic medicine i'm talking about. So, how to you keep your doctor appointments?
how do you get prescribed medicine on the road.

If you think you can self control your medication for psychosis you don't belong anywhere near a truck. Find a different job.
Flacrkr, driverdriver, Aamcotrans and 3 others Thank this. -
Ok, thank you for your reply, anyone want to chime in?
Let me also add mental illness is environmental and hereditary, internal, (nature vs nurture) and there are spectrum's. I feel I am on the very capable side of the spectrum and had some issues growing up and finding who I am and who I need to be in a capitalist society.
I went to college for business , have taken calculus, statistics, accounting , I am very capable human being. If someone wants give me an honest answer and not be rude I would appreciate it.Last edited: Jan 16, 2018
bottomdumpin Thanks this. -
What drug/drugs are you on?Aamcotrans and not4hire Thank this. -
That's none of your business. My main question is, how to I keep doctors appointments if I am on the road all the time? My new insurance might not cover me so I may have to go for a different drug eventually if I have a career in Trucking.

FMCSR 391.41(B)(9) might disqualify you.
IMO you should get a CDL physical from an approved doctor where you live now. Find the list on line, call around for the best price.
Better to find out now if you're medically qualified, than to get to Utah, get medically disqualified, and have to find your own way home. Good luck.Dan.S, Aamcotrans, potentialhardworker and 2 others Thank this. -
And if you drive Otr you need to deal with medical appointments on home time. Anything that might require that you see your own Dr on something of an urgent basis doesn't go well with driving Otr.
If you don't want to hear the answers don't ask the questions.Dan.S, dunchues, potentialhardworker and 1 other person Thank this. -
There is a girl named @pattyj that is looking for a co-driver.
There is a freight broker that goes by @boredsocial that could hook you up with loads.
Good luck.TripleSix, RoadRooster, tucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
Thank You, some kind of inside joke I guess. I have a sense of humor I hope eventually i'll get my answer. Gotta love the internet, it's not quite the utopia we all imagines but it is what it is.
I am only asking here because I am afraid to bring it up to the recruiter. I could be less than informative on what medication I need, but I would need to make office visits at least once every three months.
I want to earn money , so if i'm too serious , I apologize.
Don't mess around with drugs except coffee and am a well developed adult. Was looking for a seasoned trucker, not some hillbilly giving ######## answers.
Used to watch Ice Road tTruckers so I know what i'm in for as far as personality goes.Last edited: Jan 16, 2018
