Ok, i hear that you are not aloud to move the truck at all when your drive time is expired... So how do you get to the store to fill up your truck with some goodies? Can you drive on your 34 if you live out of your truck? or do you just try to park at a store?

When you go to the store and return to where you started from you can use personal conveyance. Do it while you are empty so no one steals your load and you are not laden. Then you can drop your trailer with a truck stop manager's permission and bobtail. Perfectly legal.

    Depends on the company.

A friend thought he could use the personal conveyance to drive 14 blocks to the walmart as bobtail. Safety nailed him for violation of the 34 hour break. They do not allow any movement.

That's the company with idiot rules. That has nothing to do with the regulations. Actually that driver was in the right. If a company tells you ahead of time you can't use their equipment for personal use then you have to listen to them. But most companies will let you run to the store or go eat.

Furtherance means not advancing. Your logbook should pick up where you went off duty at.

For the OP laden means you are under load.

That's doesn't seem right. Violating a company policy does not equal violating fmcsa rules.

I am well aware of the regulations.

I am the one who told him to use personal conveyance.

The safety guy told him that the company policy is the rule. The safety guy did not agree with company policy, but stated it is their insurance, fuel, equipment.

You get your goodies before you stop. It's called trip planning. In your trip planning you can also see if there are stores, restaurants in walking distance. It's called exercise. If the first 2 are not available. It's called you are crap out of luck.

That depends on the company. My company has what is called personal conveyance like cc said. But you cannot be under a load when that is used and you must have hrs available when that is used.We can only use up to an hr..You can still stop at a walmart and get what you want while under a load. Most are trucker friendly.
