Or, they can threaten to cancel their coverage for not implementing a certain policy, or terminating the employment of a certain driver, depending on how big a liability he is.
How do you get to the store when your drive time is up? or if you are on a reset?

As a company driver I have no option for off duty driving.
If I start driving I am on the driving line, plain and simple.
And I better have a proper pre-trip logged before that drive time, as well, just in case.
L/O or O/O have that 5th line to use, but I don't. -
Trip planning has nothing to do with wanting or needing to be mobile while on a restart. --Most-- companies are like my company and allow Off Duty-Driving so long as you return to the original location before going back on duty. Also, I'm not aware that you have to bobtail other then it may be company policy. My company won't allow us to drop a trailer except at terminal or customer locations, so we can (must) take our trailers with us if we need to run an errand or otherwise live a civilized life while on break, and especially while on the rare restart on the road.
Good grief people, if you're working for a company that literally imprisons you 24/7 and in leg irons, you really need to re-think your employer optionsbiggare1980, TruckerGeorge91, 123456 and 1 other person Thank this. -
TRIP PLAN some people's company might want to read the rules.
Question 26: If a driver is permitted to use a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) for personal reasons, how must the driving time be recorded?
Guidance: When a driver is relieved from work and all responsibility for performing work, time spent traveling from a drivers home to his/her terminal (normal work reporting location), or from a drivers terminal to his/her home, may be considered off-duty time. Similarly, time spent traveling short distances from a drivers en route lodgings (such as en route terminals or motels) to restaurants in the vicinity of such lodgings may be considered off-duty time. The type of conveyance used from the terminal to the drivers home, from the drivers home to the terminal, or to restaurants in the vicinity of en route lodgings would not alter the situation unless the vehicle is laden. A driver may not operate a laden CMV as a personal conveyance. The driver who uses a motor carriers Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) for transportation home, and is subsequently called by the employing carrier and is then dispatched from home, would be on-duty from the time the driver leaves home.
A driver placed out of service for exceeding the requirements of the hours of service regulations may not drive a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) to any location to obtain rest.
Laden weight... the weight of the truck and trailer WITH the load on.
Unladen weight... the weight of the truck and trailer WITHOUT the load.

They need to move that guy to a different dept like fuel manager! Then he can cut the trucks way back and charge people for going out of route 1/2 mile.

Don't wait until a reset to try shopping. Throughout the week you'll be able to make time to shop just like you take time to eat, shower, etc. In due time you'll develop you're own tendencies so don't worry too much about it now

*Replied to op's inquiry -before- coming across MACK E-6's response. -
They have to be. These new drivers are so tech savy there using message boards asking all sort of weird questions. God what did we do 10,15 even 20 years ago. He did we survive.
Dinomite Thanks this.
