How do you guys drive coast to coast, what is your routine?

    Get rest. Don’t stay up late. If you’re working that 10 off then leaving, get plenty of rest. Drive and keep the doors shut

    Probably not worth working for anyhow. 90% of dry van freight ain’t as time critical as everyone likes to pretend it is.

    If you do want to be the guy that runs like a grade A ape (I know the original of this saying is far less tasteful, I’ll keep using mine thanks) here’s a few tips from a newbie to a newbie

    1) Major highways and the interstates are your FRIEND. I would rather drive 100 miles at 75mph then 30-40 at 35-55mph through neighborhoods.

    2) buy an atlas map weight restricted routes and use them as shortcuts if the top rule does not apply AND you are not over that weight limit.

    3)A quality truck GPS is fantastic but it’s still no replacement for common sense. My 609$ gps still does dumb things like google maps with the only benefit being avoiding height restriction bridges inside city limits.

    4)A truck GPS will STILL take you down routes a truck will not navigate. It doesn’t take into consideration some turns cannot be made with a 53ft trailer
    (Looking at you Louisiana cotton gin!!!!!)

    5)Some old guys are wise and worth listening to but age does not = wisdom

    Anytime in north jersey my GPS wants me to take the pike Lol. Screw that. If im in north bergan for example taking NJ3 to US46 to 80 is the faster way. GPS wants me to get back on the pike up to 80. Bout 15 min quicker going my way. Those guys blindly following their GPS don't know what they're missing out on Lol

    The easiest day of trucking I can imagine is start out the day with full tanks, drive 300 miles or so, big lunch beak at least an hour, and then have the afternoon shift of another 300 miles. Probably will have to pull into a rest area to take a leak halfway through the morning shift. Then pull into the truck stop and fuel at the end of the day and get the free shower and lots of easy parking.

    Doesn’t usually happen like this but nice when it does.
