The "good old days" of paper logs, trucks without a speed governor that would really fly, and a couple of hundred whites in a baggie tucked down between the dog house and the bunk.

I remember looking for a job in Yakima and being told that I'd get hired if I could make two rounds from Okanogan to L.A. every week....solo. If I wanted the job, that was the deal. The boss said "I bid it too cheap and I need two trips to make it pay".
LOL...The boss supplied the whites and after a while when the whites didn't work any more he'd either fire you or hook you up with some Black Beauties. I never saw any toothpicks but this was back in the 70s and maybe the drug culture hadn't evolved enough. He had a lot of employee turnover
