I got a question. We are loading and unloading in different company and not all of them you can stay check how they loading you. Sometimes people how loading don't care about your trailer they can make some scratch make som holes in your wall and most common they are speeding then they enter or exit from your trailer. Can someone tall me what are you doing on this situation. Thank you
How do you handle trailer damage done by the shipper?

RefMata, alds and ProfessionalNoticer Thank this. -
If you aren't allowed on the dock, this can be an issue. Pics before, then iff damaged, file a claim. However most shippers will laugh this off.

If I’m not there to count the stuff on, I’m not signing for it. Trailer damages are another issue. I’d be most worried about signing for something that didn’t go on the truck. Three guesses where the money to pay that claim is going to come from. Your ship, you’re the Captain. As far as loading goes, after you count it, they should put it where and how YOU want it. You’re the one with the responsibility for it. If they don’t want you there they’re trying to hide something that you’ll end up paying for in the end. Myself, I’d tell them to #### off and go find another load. Lots out there.alds and silverspur Thank this.

While proper grammar isn't required, I struggled though that one, but I get the idea. Like kranky sez, kind of, it's YOUR trailer, they have to load it the way YOU want, not t'other way 'round. Once they enter the trailer, they leave the "safety" of their dock, and don't be intimidated, without you, they don't have a job, although mentioning that may not be the best thing. You know what I'd do? If I wasn't allowed on the dock, get some fake camera, ( with a light blinking)and mount it near the back. Like on a school bus, it IMMEDIATELY stopped the bad behavior.

I imagine it would be difficult to pinpoint who exactly is responsible for the trailer damage, whether the shipper or receiver personnel, since they're loading pallets in an enclosed box.
For example, let's say at pickup drivers are not allowed on dock. You can still check inside for damage when you close doors (assuming trailer has swing doors, not roll up that is sealed by personnel inside warehouse), but if you have a full truckload with high cube pallets, you wouldn't able to see if there is damage on the wall 5' from the nose until you are empty, and even then, how would you know if it was the shipper that was responsible for that, and not the receiver when they were pulling the pallets out, or vice-versa, damage being cause by receiver dragging forklift arm or pallet along the wall? I suppose cameras inside could help, assuming damage didn't occur in a blind spot.
