In addition to all the other posters I'd add that its usually not a bad idea to get out and check that the tandems are locked in before actually coupling. I learned that one the hard way - I almost had to buy a brand new brick wall.

Been there done that! And it's no picnic. Just hope you stop before the trlr hits the truck -
we are to back up until the fith wheel plate touches trailer, get up and connect airlines to trailer ( without getting them greasy) , and then charge trailer brakes before backing under.
Do other places have it this way in the drivers handbook?
I know this stems from the days of before the spring brakes............... -
sitting at a dock and watched a driver skip the king pin and mess up the back of her truck. How did she do it?talking on the cell phone.dont talk on the cell when backing.had to help her get out from under the kingpin, she blamed the driver who dropped the trailer.I tried to holler on the cb but I guess the phone was more important

Guy at my work dropped a trailer on the road the other day lol. Claims he did his tug test. Drove out of the yard onto the road fine then hit a bump and he heard this screeching noise and the trailer was getting further and further behind him lol. -
