Really, you just need a feel for the truck. There is not formula for exactly when to make the turn. Some rights are a corner. Some are rounded. Some require a button hook, others don't. Once you drive for a month it becomes second nature. Untill you get used to it, just make um wide and keep looking in your right miror to make sure no one gets in on the right side if you leave to much room.

I give myself as much room as I can and use my mirrors as much as I can. I sometimes use two lanes ( making sure nobody sneaks in on the inside )
I go very slow so if I end up on a curb a bit, I don't damage my tires and/or shift my load.

If I'm getting close to a pole or a car...I have no problem stopping my truck right then and there and taking a closer look.

I've had folks honk like crazy at me...I don't care.
They will have to go around me or wait till I move.

I've never hurt anyone or hit anything and that's all that matters.

Where there is any doubt at all...even the slightest doubt, STOP EVERYTHING. Don't drive an inch more until you know it's safe and clear!!

You can get a ticket for blocking the flow of traffic. I seem to always be able to make turns without impeding. LOL, he should ask UPS though. UPS drivers are instructed to only make right turns.

I have been told in training that you should never swing left on right turns and instead swing into the oncoming lane of the road you're turning on when you need extra room to clear your tandems. Is this not true?

Thats true but its not always doable on the smaller tight streets. You would not always be able to make the right turn due to the stopped traffic on the road you are turning down. Sometimes you just have to swing left to make the turn.

I would rather "share" a lane with traffic going the same direction as me, compared to pulling into an oncoming lane!

And if the street is tight enough you can take out a light pole or fire hydrant to. Cool!

Light poles are cheaper than traffic signals! Or utility poles...

I wouldn't know since I have never needed to pay for one of them but im sure if I tore one down the bill would get mailed to me rather than the company.
