Hello everyone. Im having to re-enter the big company trucking world which is something that I am dreading but there is absolutely no work around here. Ive been unemployed for a few months and I have got to fill out apps to all the major carriers and see what bites.
The hardest part is I have a wife, and 2 children (5 and 9). How do yall keep in touch with them other than your traditional cell phone? How do you handle the pain and sadness from being away from them for weeks at a time?
Just looking for a better way to cope because I am almost certain that I will be leaving them by this time next month....![]()
How do you keep in touch with your family?

Yes, the laptop helps tremendously.
Although all of my children are grown, I have a ton of grandbabies.
Emails, webcam, instant messenger, facebook, and myspace all help for us to keep in touch daily.
My kids post videos, and photos, of all the new and exciting things the grandbabies do, as well as everything going on in their lives.
It's NOT the same as being there, in person....but it's better than just a voice at the end of a phone line. (besides, have you ever tried to engage an 18 month old on the phone??? LOL)
Good luck to you, Zephirus!

Besides the cell phone, we rely on laptops, web cams and both laptops have Skype software in them.
It helps tremendously that we get to "see" each other. Even if it is through the computer.simplyred1962 Thanks this. -
How do you connect your laptop to the internet? Do you use a cellphone plan or what? Which carrier do you use?

We had to buy a "data card" for the laptop through our cell carrier. We currently use Sprint, but have been having some problems lately, so I won't recommend them. We will be switching carriers when this contract is up in March. (We had to get a separate phone "line",or number, for the data card.)
It connected to the internet well enough for a very long time, but Sprint has recently lost use of a lot of towers, so the connection is not good in some states.
Hope that helps?

check out millenicon. I just got hooked up with them, as they have an unlimited internet access air card for the lap top (the card they send me does say sprint on it though). They say pretty much wher ever there is cell service you will have internet. It is not quite good DSL speed, but testing here at home, it is good enough for web cam with sound (both using skype & windows live messenger). It is 69.99/mo though. My plan is to have skype up & the web cam pointed out the windsheild, so wifey can see what I see when she feels like.

We use Verizon for all of our cell phones and he uses one of their broadband usb cards for his internet service while on the road.
