Honestly I love doing split loads. I make an extra $45-75/night doing them
-
If it won't fit I usually take it to a different store. Luckily dispatch won't make us wait for them to sell enough, they'll just have me divert it.
-
I think in 10 years or so I've had maybe 2 split loads. If it doesn't fit it comes back unless we want to be nice and will wait for a couple hundred gallons.
DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
We have a customer that is about 80% of our business. Luckily if the store is say, a BP branded store and 3,000 gallons won't fit, happened to me a few weeks ago, I just call night dispatch and tell them what store I want to take it too. They check to make sure it's also a bp branded store and that it will fit then I take it there and get $15 for the split.
one night I had 4 split loads. 3 locals and a medium distance load. I like the split loads since last year I made a little over $6k off of them alone.
Our company is notorious in jax for splits, I've spoke with guys at the rack and most of them just do straight runs. -
Just throw over that extra NL into the super.... There's plenty of room in that tank..
Hmmm.....RockinChair Thanks this. -
Lol, been asked to do that multiple times.
One store we service ordered 7000 gallons of NL. I show up and they can't hold but 6500 or so. Had to go over the 90% Ullage after getting a few emails exchanged with the customer, my dispatch, and a few others. -
Split loads = fast money.. Long runs = garbage.. At least here in milwaukee . I can do a local split in under 2.5 hrs or a 3.5 hr long single load and make about $20 less than the 2.5 hr split... It's crazy how this business pays.. Almost like its backwards..
-
I love our long split loads, but our short splits make fast money most definitely.
We have one guy who only stays in jacksonville, runs 7-9 loads a day. One day he ran 6 splits and 2 straights but I guarantee he made at LEAST $400 that day. He runs like that 5 days a week. He is a machine. -
Yea long splits are nice when you make that extra 40$ for dropping 1 compartment of retain at a station on your way back that's right off the freeway but when you're dealing with ice and snow it kinda sucks, plus dispatch tries to order correctly for the long runs because they know drivers love to play the systemDrtyDiesel Thanks this.
