    Hello, O/O
I have been doing some reserch and thinking about buying my own truck but before the big leap I want all my ducks in a row. first so my question to all of you is how do you manage your loads
    1) do you have dedacated loads (and how do you get them)
    2) or do some of you have to find loads on a daily basics
    3)do you use a broker
4)or do some of you find your loads online
I am trying to make sure I can get steady loads just want a load managment plan if that make any since to you.
    Thanks Mike

I started in July with Farm2Fleet. We are self-dispatched and set up our own running model. we can work with the office and they can find loads for us if we want.

When I started, I tried to have all my loads lined up for me before I left the house. Be gone for 5-10 days and home. Didn't work so well for me. Sometimes, I couldn't find loads up to 7-9 days out. They just weren't listed.

I have been having REALLY good luck the last couple weeks just looking on the load boards the morning I am going to become empty.

The best results I have had, brokers are actually calling me. I post my truck empty in an area and on what day. Wait for the calls to come in. I have actually done some nice paying loads that way.

I have gotten my loads from Internet truckstop or CH Robinson mainly.

can't get onto the Internet truckstop either.

To get set-up with CHRW, about all you need is a pulse and an MC number.

There are a number of loadboards, but you will need your own authority in order to be able to subscribe to their service. OOIDA has their own loadboard, www.mymembersedge.com that members can subscribe at a discount. I believe you can subscribe to that loadboard without having your own authority. Their board is part of DAT. Some of the larger brokers also have their own inhouse loadboards. You didn't mention the type of freight you plan on hauling, but Schneider, Landstar and several other major carriers have their own loadboards.

If you lease to a carrier you won't need to worry about subscribing to any of the loadboards. But, you may be able to subscribe to some of the loadboards using their authority. You will need to get written permission from your carrier in order to subscribe.
