RickG where did you learn math. Multiply 2400 miles x 1.50 and see what you come up with. If you ain't getting over 2000 miles a week you ain't making nothing, unless you're doing heavy haul or car transport.
How do you o/o for ~$1/mile?

I average 1500 miles a week, typical 25% of those paying zilch/deadhead, pulling a dry van grossing and keeping more than $1.50 a mile leases turning 3,000 miles a week. It can be done outside of heavy haul, etc.. do it every time I roll out.
-
I ran 980 miles this week.
-
@Rollin Coal, yeah I know it can be done. I was referring to the guy who said I must been making $2200 a month, as if there's no decent money to be made. We know that there are going to be some slack weeks, but as an o/o you have to decide how long you can deal with those slack weeks. I went to Star Transportation out of Nashville and average bout 1800mi @ 1.03 with 33 cents fsc. Not bringing home much more than a company driver making 33 cents a mile. Gave them 2 1/2 months and called it quits. Moving on.

With a van this week, working 6 days i grossed out at $11,000..My ''actual'' all miles including deadhead was right at 3700 miles. After fuel, tolls and Landstar % i will be right at 5,000-6,000 bring home to the dinner table..
osumike33 and Travelinman Thank this. -

I only work about 6-7 months a year.I refuse to haul ''cheap freight'' and destroy my life at home doing so.So i do alot of calling around to agents/brokers and alot of work on the computer.
I used to be uneducated and ran like a dog.4000 miles a week at 1.00..One day i asked an old Italian man for help and he sat me down and bought me dinner. From that day forward i was and still am a student of ''Work Smarter Not Harder''...Big Jay, scythe08, Excorcist1 and 4 others Thank this. -
That .95 per mile plus .50fsc the mega carriers pay is comprable to about $1.90 per mile at a company like Landstar.
Take a 1000mi trip for instance. At the mega carrier equals $1450 for the driver.
At Landstar which pays Van 65%, 1000mi x $1.90= $1900 minus the $500fsc equals $1400 x 65%= $910 + $500fsc = $1410 to the driver. (is this how its calculated?)
So a driver would need to beat $1.95per mile to do better than the mega carrier drivers. What's the average van rate drivers are seeing at Landstar? -
I am doing a 1000 mile trip this week.It pays 2.75 a mile at 1000 miles...10,000 lbs..
2.75 x 1000 =2750.00
1000 x .50 (fuel sircharge) = 500.00 to me 100%..so watch the math
2750-500= 2250.00(this is my new L/H)..tAKE THIS NUMBER AND X BY 65% OR 72% (OWN WAGON)..
2250 x 65% = 1462.00 (after landstar cut)..now add the fuel back in 500.00
1462 + 500 = 1962..
1962.00 to me.This is the REAL NUMBER for 1000 miles and now we have the 100 mile deadhead. So in reality i have 1100 miles on the ground..
1962.00 / 1100 miles = 1.78 to me per every single mile...
FUEL
1100 / 6.5 = 169.2..
169 Gallons x 3.80 = 642.90 for my fuel...
1962 - 642.90 = 1319.00 to my dinner table...
NO TOLLS ON THIS TRIP...EZX1100 Thanks this. -
Ok, so my math is correct. How easy is it to beat that $1.90 per mile (gross) at Landstar and how often are you able to get $2.75per mile (gross)?
