you forgot the best part
1,000 miles at 60mph (overall average) is about 16 hours /$1319 = $82/hr
not bad for doing a job any monkey can do
How do you o/o for ~$1/mile?

I study the computer and load boards until i find my ''rate''..If it takes 10 days,it takes 10 days..Meanwhile i try to enjoy my home life..
If every trucker did what i did,we would not have CHEAP FREIGHT..!!!..To many drivers are like a dog forever chasing there own tail and never getting ahead...It is sad to see this but then again I DID IT until i listened to the ''pro's''..Then i changed my business plan..
This week i am leaving sunday after 11 days off..My runs are as follows...1st run is 4.00 a mile...2nd is 5.65 a mile military load..My 3rd run is 2.95 and my last load to my home is 3.30...All these loads are under 19,000 lbs..I will be back home thursday night..Then i will be off again enjoying my home..Travelinman, Container Hauler and Excorcist1 Thank this. -

they pay all miles unlike a true o/o with own authority they only get paid loaded miles some will argue how they are getting paid all miles but I call b/s because they are taking their profits and averaging in their empty miles they can do that but since they do that they cannot write off the empty miles on taxes.

Riddle me this, which is better: A $2000 load going 1000 miles, or deadheading 200 miles for a $2000 load going 800 miles? -
It seems to me it would be better to do the 'light' deadhead and save fuel money on the 200 miles. All things being equal.
-
I just did that today. Nothing paying worth a darn where I am now. Deadheading 150 miles for a load paying $2/mi going 3000 miles. -
my rule of thumb is simple. if I cant afford a front flat tire with roadside service fee..I had better not take the load. We all know we deserve a whole lot more money per mile for the amount of crap we deal with. Compliance changes every 6months, fuel rates, insurance. I prefer to sit before taking a load that doesn't pay. Maybe if more men and women did this. We can force them to pay an honest rate.

1319 minus fuel, maintenance I think its more like #40/hr
