How do you guys/gals go about your travels? Do you like to drive at night and rest during the day? Or maybe you like the opposite? Is one better than the other in terms of finding parking at truckstops/rest areas?
Thanks!
How do you operate?

Some drive at night because its peaceful and less traffic.I prefer days.Finding a parking spot is easier in the daytime. But you get out in the northeast, most truckstops and service plazas are packed no matter what the time is but rest areas not so much during the daytime hrs.
-
Depends on the load ... anymore i drive when I'm legal whether it is day or night ... Sort of in preparation for elog mandate i guess.
-
I prefer driving at night myself as there's less traffic, the pain is that my circadian rhythm isn't quite up to par with that yet. Cup of coffee and walking around a bit remedy that; but for the most part it does make parking easier and sleeping quieter when sleeping during the day.

I do a "line haul" type of job. As a result, I work nightly and I like it. As the other poster said or alluded to, is that sleeping can be a problem, at first.
Since I do not need to park to rest, i can get in and out of the truck stop quickly for fuel and my snack. But therein still lies the problem of ignorant truckers parking at the fuel islands. And I do mean park. No need for ignorance on thier part. Some of us got to fuel up and continue. -
I prefer driving at night but unfortunately 80% of my loads require day driving.

When I was running team OTR I always ran nights. I loved it. Now I'm all over the place. Nights are tougher when you don't do it every single day. I had no problems with it when that's all I did.

It depends on my hours of service, the load's delivery time, and what kind of route I'm planning. All this being equal, I prefer to start mid-morning and be shut down by late evening.
As far as parking, "The early bird catches the worm" is the truth. A lot of Truck stops fill up by late-evening. -
The best I can with what I'm given is all I know to say.
-
It depends for me. If I've been cursed with a run that requires me to come near the East or West Coast I will flip my schedule around and run nights to avoid the hell that exists on both coasts. If I'm out cruising around the mid-west just having a good ol time I'll try to run days so i can enjoy the scenery.
ncmickey Thanks this.
