Stick your head out the window and yell "WOOP WOOP!! It's flat on the floor and won't give me no more!"

When your Pyro is trembling at 1500F or so, axles over 250F Each, the trans trying it's best to exceed that and you are dripping coolant at 210F and your oil pressure has lost 20 pounds before you reached the top and so on, shes working really hard.

Other than that cruising is not working hard.

Pull a bull wagon in a cross wind empty or loaded, uphill or flat she'll get a work out.

Its about the cylinder pressure pushing the rings down hard on the piston lands and out hard against the cylinder wall so that the peaks of the crosshatch in the bores wear down the high spots in the rings and the ring face mates as best as possible to the bore. If you idle its gonna wear the hone smooth before the rings have been sufficiently wittled.

Static ring tension is not enough to do this so idling is a mistake. Plan on an oil change stat cuz the oil will be full of metal. Your valve seats will also mate to the valves during this period.

I dont suggest lugging under high loads.. It pounds the oil out of the top journal of the rod bearings. Low rpm = low oil pump volume. High loads should be done at high rpm.. Dont worry about economy. Extending your next overhaul by a few years will buy the extra fuel consumed.

Also vary the rpm a lot. Dont run on crusie control and dont stay at the same rpm. Piston slap past tdc will buff the same spot in the liner too often if the exact same velocity abd cylinder pressure is constantly occuring past TDC.

I’ve been running mine hard since the OH. Varying the fuel, occasionally on the floor, working it up a hill, Lugging a little bit, then running it at higher rpms, just trying to get a good range of operation. Trying not to idle, but it’s impossible to do. Running it hard when heavy and a little bit of Lugging, puts outward pressure from the pistons on the cylinders. That’s good and necessary for sealing up rings, along with heat. Idling at a cool temp, is the worse thing. It all goes into the process, a little idling along the way, doesn’t seal the fate, only prolongs the process. Changed my oil at 6500, had a lot of shavings on the plug, from cutting counterbores. Changed it again at 11800, no more metal. Next change will be at 20 k. Then every 15k. Trucks running great, no smoke blow by or oil slobber. Burning a gallon every 3-4k miles so far.Thats good and normal
