I just went through the truck driving program at a college here in Wisconsin. Now what? Every job I am looking for requires at least 1 year of experience. Where can I get that experience? I have investigated a few companies on the Internet and don't want to get screwed. I just want to find a job, drive, and earn an honest paycheck.

Thats what happens to allot of us.Me personaly have had my CDL for 6 months or so but have drive tractor trailers for a few years(military trucks as a civillian)Options are slim if no one local will pick you up.Seems like the mills are the way to go for starters(swift, prime, schnieder, millis,jb hunt, ect)Its tough to have the cdl with no school.Almost all wanna see a credited school grad.im prob just gonna go through one of the company schools.Which isnt a bad thing, the more training the better.Nothing worse then having someone completly untrained doing something that can be very dangerous.

The "screwing" complaints are usually from those that get their CDL through the company's own "academy/school" and the cost of training is applied to the driver over an extended length of time...instead of having to pay up front. So you can start with a "training company"...[as mentioned above]...and get your first year or more experience from these training companies. You never know, you might enjoy who you start with and never leave...some do!:biggrin_25525:

Where you are living at, in the "boonies" is a major strike against you. OTR is you only option for now. J.B. Hunt, Swift, Scheinder, Werner, Stevens Transport, etc.
