I am somewhat lucky that my run is a regular run each night. The only thing that I really need to do is get my return freight back to the starting warehouse by at the very least 4:00 AM, so they can unload me and put that freight onto their daily deliver trucks.
That being said, I always have a large coffee with me, usually an ice coffee, from the start of the night, and sip it. On my return trip, I buy a hot coffee at the truck stop when I fuel up.
The caffeine does not always work, so I take a power nap, when I can. And that is usually just after I fuel up, at a rest area. But most nights, I haven't any problems staying awake.
How do you stay awake?
Hey truckon, call your dispatcher. That's usually good for a laugh.
Back when I was a rookie in the old pager/beeper days I would be sound asleep for the night and the beeper would go off, the call back number would be the office number, so I get up (even though its midnight-3am) and go call the number and it would ring directly to the dispatchers house
"hellloooo?" she would say
"hi, I just got paged from you?"
"nnnooooo... I never paged you."
"ok, sorry!!"
This went on every couple nights for about 2 weeks until we figured out it was the guys in the shop staying late, drinking and prank calling everyones pager.Sean_Reno Thanks this. -

Deal with it. If I did not drive when I was tired or sleepy I would never move.
