How do you tell if it's the trailer or the pigtail?

So last week during a pre-trip, i noticed that one side of the trailer lights were not working. i jiggled the pigtail and then they started working.

How do you determine if it's something to do with the trailer/light receptacle or the light cord pigtail/tractor issue?

Also, i have a test light and multimeter and know how to use them (i think?)

You need a pinot diagram to start.

qu26365_800.jpg test light is how you determine if its the light cord or the trailer.

if its just one side of the trailer its probably a broken off corroded wire on the back side of the plug on the trailer

Hook up to multiple trailers and see if it gives you problems while jiggling it. I've got the same problem, so I just use zip ties to keep the plug tight.

It takes like 10 minutes to put a new plug on. They’re cheap too.

I try plugging into another trailer that I know doesn't have any issues. That's the lazy woman's way to exclude the cord.
