Stupid I know, but there were no instructions. I inserted a cartridge, turned the ignition on, plugged in the power cord and connected it to the cigarrette lighter and nothing! I've pressed the red button, held down the function button and nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

I'm trying to plug into a DDEC II series 60 on a Ford L9000. I put another plug into the cigarette lighter to ensure it has power, and it does.

Most will get their power from the diagnostic plug under the dash. Two wires are for data, another two are for 12 volts, and ground. Is there good power at the lighter socket?

I've been fiddling with it. Here's the update:

When I plug it in to the 12 volts cigarette lighter, nothing happens. When I plug in the diagnostic end into the diagnostic port, it starts beeping and nothing displays. Occasionally, the COPYRIGHT 1996 MSTC will pop up for a second or two and go away while blinking. The beep is a solid beep lasting 10 seconds, or some times a few seconds. It has even flashed INSERT PC CARD. What the heck.

I put in a Multi Protocol cartridge with the DDEC II cartridge, nothing. The same with the DDEC III and V cartridge. So, I took out the MPC card reader and put in the "HEAVY DUTY STANDARD" application card, and nothing happened.

I've pressed all the buttons and I am getting no where.

Is there any way you could try this out on another truck to help determine if the reader is acting up, or the plug is bad on your truck?

    freightlinerman Thanks this.

Look's like I'll be hitting up the truck stop tomorrow to see if I can't find a truck. If anyone is in El Paso with a DDEC 2, 3 or 4 engine, let me know.
