Okay I'm back here after a pretty long time away. You are absolutely correct about applying, and i mean apply everywhere you can! That being said, Most Companies just don't want to see any recent criminal activity. I have found that it usually means No Parole/Probation status in the past 7yrs, and Felony conviction must be older than 10yrs, but if you have some kind of sexual or drug related crime....Forget it!!!
I know many would say not to do what I'm doing, but it's been a long 2+ yrs since i graduated from Truck School. So, I am going with a training company that recently called me to come to orientation. No, it's not CRE....it's Star! I fgure it this way, All members of My training class went with Star and i didn't hear any horror stories from any of them. I am also still in contact with members from my Graduating Class. I will be going out in a few days and i just wanted to post up on this thread and say that if Ya want to drive truck...Be Persistant and it will eventually happen:biggrin_25525:! Just stay out of trouble long enough justify being hired on by a company.
    Later Folks...wish me good luck!

Some companies will not hire you no matter how long or what the felony was for.

Some companies will not hire you if your experience has not been within the set time frame for their company.. anywhere from 90 days and up.

The best thing to do is find a good size truck stop and go get the small magazines they have on all the trucking companies with the free 800 numbers to call and start calling and be honest up front with them right off the bat what is going on.

Many will not talk with you after you tell them, but there are some not many but some that will, and for the ones that won't be polite and ask them if they know of companies that will hire with your situtation.

All they can do is say no, but someone will say yes!

I have experienced first hand the 90% who will NOT under any circumstances hire a felon no matter the crime or timeframe since final disposition. I was and still am just happy to have been asked to come aboard at star's morton, Il terminal. I was up- front with them about My conviction almost 17yrs ago, and they still returned a phone call and asked for the particulars. Now i know they had already run a background check, but wanted to hear it from my lips that I was not trying to conceal anything. I have No illusions of getting great $$$ from the start, nor do i have any misguided beliefs that i will get wonderful treatment from anyone.
I just know that for me...it's a way into a career when all else has gone to hell in a hand basket! I am a great welder, but all i can find in My area are temp positions for that type of job. Steel industry is almost dead here, even Deere and Company isn't hiring anyone. Anyway, here i am 46yrs old and getting my foot in the door of the trucking industry, and I'm happy to go out and pay my dues! Nervous??? More than a little to be sure! But having kept myself out of trouble and not being a statistical repeater has opened a door for me.
If this helps anyone out there who has given up on the search for a Driving Job...I've done My best then. Just keep plugging away at those apps and some one will take a look at you.
    Peace all!

Really?? that doesn't sound right, I'm rather glad that I put my time into positive things and activities, paid my debt to society and don't have to go to an outfit that would have such practices. I'm quite sure there will be some rough patches ahead for me having been out of Driving School for a little over 2yrs now, but they gave me an over-ride on the need for refresher course and instead they are putting me with a trainer for about 5-6 wks. I gotta take the opportunity now while it has presented it's self.
