I got pulled at a weigh station this morning. Not overweight, just random walk around. He found that my steering box was leaking a little and wrote me up. Not oos. Just a small leak my shop knew about and told me that it needs about a quart every 2 weeks. Is this something that goes on my personal record somewhere that a future employer would see, or is it only going in as a record on the company's CSA score?
How does DOT violation personally affect me?

it goes on both your records.

A quart every 2 weeks is more than just "leaking a little"...

Next time tell your shop...If its leaking, FIX it. That wasnt smart on your shops part. Yup, your record and the companys. Hope it is a lesson learned. Comes with life.

That's what I thought. I took the mechanic's advice....He's been here 34 years. Oh well. -
Minor was always in the eye of who was seeing it, but not that much is minor anymore.

i thought minor was not running out before you filled it again

Lazy mechanic, or perhaps the boss tells him to let things like that go. Years ago I parked my truck got my stuff out, put them in my pick-up. Them went to the office telling the boss, "I just took everything out of that truck, your mechanic refuses to fix the steering box, if & when its fixed, if you would like me to drive it, give me a call at home."
Fixing to walk out he said, "Just a moment, explain this to me," I did, he made a call & them asked me to drive it to the repair shop & he would pick me up. Next day he came by my house & took me to pick it up, telling me if such a problem rose again to come strait to him. And I had to do that several weeks later, an air valve started leaking, coming down a hill to a stop sign I just nearly run though it. The mechanic said it was OK, keep driving it. I went to the boss. That time we got a new mechanic.
Its you life, don't drive a truck down the highway with safety issues that can go bad quickly, plus, if it did go bad quickly you might take someone else with you. Its not worth YOUR risk.Last edited: Apr 1, 2013
