Texan, my situation is one of helping a friend who is starting his own company so I agreed to work for an hourly rate. As his business grows, so will my hourly rate. That 3-7k is what companies currently bonus new hires. I don't know how to honestly answer what other companies are paying as I don't know of many in this new field of outside recruiting assistance.
In my capacity as a broker I have been telling other carriers I use that I have a new part time job helping hiring drivers and they ask if I could help them for hourly rate and then bonus money if the new driver stays with them 30 days-3mos -6mos and then 12 mos. In one instance I was offered 15 per hour and then 50/50/100/200 for those time periods.
I gave it a try by posting an ad on Craigslist, took a call, told the driver to go to the the truck co and apply, he got hired. They love him and I will get some bonus money if he continues to stay. Ad was free, talked to him maybe 5 minutes, the rest is history.
They say they are too busy to answer calls from drivers but the only thing keeping them from growing is the ability to hire new drivers. To me that is a win win win situation.
They hired a driver, a driver got a job. and I will get paid for making it happen.
I am always near the phone and tell candidates to call up until 8pm and weekends OK and they call at 8:05 profusely apologizing for bothering me at that time. Try calling anybody in trucking after 5 pm and they are gone, and closed weekends.
