I am a new driver and unsure how the 70 hours of 8 days work out while driving. So I would think it just how it is you can only drive for 70 hours a week for 8 days. How does the 34-hour reset work out? Thanks!!!!!!
How does the 70 hours of 8 days work out and 34 hour reset?

I have never said this before, but; You really need to do a little work on your own. There are dozens of threads about it. YouTube it.

70 hour rule includes your drivetime and onduty time
Thats done in 8 days. 34 hr reset is time off for 34 hours straight. That starts as soon as you go off dutyFriday, Moosetek13, swaggerjacker and 1 other person Thank this. -
It is not driving for 70 hours per week in an 8 day period.
That would be silly, since a week is only 7 days.
And like dptrucker said, it is 70 hours of driving plus on-duty time - cumulative.
So, 70 hours of any on-duty time.
The 34 hour reset works out just fine.
You shut down, go off duty for 34 hours, and then you have a full 70 hours to work with again.
If you are like me and like to run during the day, be careful when you start that 34 hour reset. Start it at the wrong time and you will need to be up and driving at 2330, and then you are on a night shift for the foreseeable future.tinytim, Friday, cnsper and 1 other person Thank this. -

Good luck.CMC1, tscottme, crazybread and 1 other person Thank this. -
You have to plan your schedule as you want to run it.
If you like running at night, then don't start a 34 when you will be coming back in at 0800.
And the 34 is not a hard set limit, except for the 34 hours of duration.
You can take more than 34 hours and come back when you choose, even if it is 48 hours later.
Granted some driver managers/dispatchers will get in a tizzy about it, but you are the one driving your truck. You control what you do and how you do it.G13Tomcat and crazybread Thank this. -
Thanks well from my understanding is that driving at night is better because less traffic then during the day.

I work at the place most here call the bottomest bottom feeder of all - Swift.
Yet, I control what hours I work - for the most part.
There are times when I need to work different hours, but they are few.
If I need to do a 34 reset and my hours come back in at 2200, I simply call my DM and have my PTA changed to 0600. Why? Because I don't like to drive at night because I tend to fall asleep.
No big deal. They plan me accordingly.
No pressure here because they take safety as a first priority. If I say it is not safe they deal with it, with no consequences to me.
One reason why I like it here.G13Tomcat and crazybread Thank this.
