Remove the personal conveyance option? Be careful what you implement. There are a lot of reasons to responsibly use the PC option that save and allow the completion of resets and 10 hr breaks. If your drivers can't use "line 5" responsibly, let them go. No big deal.

We're trying not to lose drivers. I've been telling the boss man for 2.5 years that there is such a thing as a good turnover. I also think we could use them as an example to stop other drivers from following that path, but we're afraid we're going "scare" them off. Maybe we should only hire people with thick skin and we wont have to worry about it.

Skip the P.C. crap and coddling,Tell them this how it needs to be and let's go make money.
So many people think they need to be cuddled and tucked in every night.
It started going down hill when the Marines had to give the new recruits yellow cards. When they thought the drill sargent was mean to them they held up the yellow card and the poor D.I. was to take a time out.
    F. that. Everybody needs to grow a pair so to speak and lets move on.

There's plenty of good turnover, driver who can't manage their time, can't learn to operate under the constraints of eLogs and use eLogs to their advantage, can't provide a clean MVR yearly, turn in damaging inspections regularly, etc, need to be culled. Not a matter of having thick skin or not, it's a matter of being a "good driver in the modern era" or not.

I've been told in response to that, "what we'll bring in will probably be worse.". So we just let those who suck hang on and make life more difficult.

Unfortunately, your boss might be right. Know that my comapny has brought back some of the drivers they fired, just to have seats filled. Not sure it's working out to well for them tho!!! lol

Only 2 legitimate uses for the "PC option", as given in 395.8 interpretations question 26, Personal conveyance.

    1) commuting between HOME and the "normal work reporting location", i.e. terminal
    2) "traveling short distances from a driver’s en route lodgings (such as en route terminals or motels) to restaurants in the vicinity of such lodgings"

Cannot be used to salvage resets or 10 hr breaks, sorry.

I just had that conversation this morning. My boss sees it differently, we'll see if I overstepped my bounds. I'm not worried about it.
