Let me go back a couple months ago. In November I didn't know I was going to lose my job (it's funny how that works lol). Anyway while I was employed I signed up to go on a cruise. So anyway when I was fired I went all "oh crap I need a decent paying job" took the funds that I had, went to Roadmaster and have thus far been able to to make it thus far. I have a prehire from Schneider and am considering some other companies.
So now I am thinking of going with Schneider but am wondering how easy would it be to take a week off later in the year. How easy or hard is it going to be to pull this off?
The answer isn't going to affect my decision making process. I am well aware that I need a job more than anything but I'll be honest with you when I say that I'm still considering having my cake and eating it too.![]()
How easy is it to take vacation with Schneider or any other mega carrier?

As soon as you hire on with a company give them notice within a few weeks that you are going to take blank amount of days off and when. Just notify them as soon as possible that way there is no way they don't get you home for your cruise.

I did something similar. Had a month long vacation planned, then changed jobs. I told the trucking company I would sign up right then or wait until my vacation was over. They needed drivers, so they signed me right then and told me be prepared to hit the road when you return. You should be OK, just tell the company during the first interview.

you didnt mention how long. most companies i think would work with you if told right up front. HOWEVER...most companies also have a maximum amount of time they will allow you to be on home time/vacation and still keep your truck. if youre gone for more than 6 or 7 days, what will most likely happen is they will take your truck away and assign you another upon your return. kind of a pita, but if you know about it ahead of time, perhaps you can plan ahead and not have too much stuff on the truck when the time comes.

aside from xmas, my company will take your truck for more then a week, but will give u back the same truck...most companies will work with you though.

Better think about getting your exp before even considering cake and eating it too.But in answer to your too soon to ask question, like any other job, you'll get a vacation in a yr and may be required to leave your trk at the terminal.

Yep , pattyj is right...in this economy KEEP your job 1st...then worry about a vacation later on. I'm sure wherever the cruise was going to there will be others.......Remember....choices do have consequences..
