Man, it really depends on what you are looking for. I started off with a basic Cobra 25 and now I use a Galaxy 44. Personally I like the Galaxy's better but there are people on here that will tell you they like the Cobra's better. Depends on how much money you are wanting to spend. If money isn't an option, I'd say go with a Stryker.

Cobra is COBRA!
If they weren't time tested like they are maybe something could be said, but they are very reliably radios
that take a good tune and hold it for many years.
Granted the Cobra mobiles dont have the toys of the Export class, but they talk every bit as good for several dollars less.
Antennas ? two words "Stainless Steel"
Fiberglass in the radio world is likened to food stamps by many.
Research
Education(low buck rigs talk good)
Great radio set up
Really just that simple . . . . .elpuft Thanks this. -
I've had a couple Cobra 25's and likes both of them, had a cheap uniden and liked that as well. Didn't know about Galaxy until recently. My local cb shop didn't carry them. As clantonman said, its about what you are looking for.

Well that depends on what you want to do with it.
A Cobra 25 is a darn good radio with a proper Peak & Tune done.
Now when you start talking about Galaxy's that is a horse of a Different color.
Cobras are a single final radio your bigger Galaxy's are dual finale's.
You can get some of them with built in Amp's in them. I use a 98VHP it does 230 pep and use it to drive a strait 8 pill. Another good radio is the connex 3300HP dual final and if set up properly is loud and clear. I don't know if I will get slapped for this, but check out Sparky's C. B. shack they have a web site they are one of the better shops out there. And Al is honest and will stand behind his work. Which in this day and age is rare.
As far as antennas go the Wilson Trucker 5000 is a darn good one. And can be tuned very easy. Now if you want to try an open coil a good one is the Predator 10K on a truck use the double coil short whip. Mine has a 17" shaft to get the coils higher than the cab and total is at 12'-9" on the mirror. Stay away from the open coil antennas at a truck stop. They are trash. And if you are going to hook up you new antenna & radio using the trucks factory coax don't, it is trash as well, remember it came from the lowest bidder. Get some good mini 8 again not at a truck stop. Then get the SWR's set by some one that knows what they are doing. Preferably by some one with an MFJ antenna analyzer.
If you PM me I can give you a site with lots of good radio info on it.
Hope this helps.Panhandle flash and elpuft Thank this. -

Aw come on thats half the fun. lol
Yea I have the same problem. It really is a dumb rule. 30 post should be more than enough. Tell you what you will have 50 way before me. When you do get a hold of outerspacehillbilly he will tell you.
Or he can send it to you now I know you can read PM's just not send. -
The older Cobra radios are the best IMO. Back before.....1992 I think it was, Cobra radios were actually made by Uniden. Now they're made by Maxon.
