Hey Tater, another stupid question from the guy who's still learning. lol
What qualifies a linear to called a 2 pill or a 4 pill? I've never really understood that. -
Correct me if I'm wrong, but "Pills" are the transistors inside the amp, hence a "2 pill" is an amp that has two transistors in it. I run a 2 pill with my dx99v.
-
Tri Axel is correct. there are lots of different " pills " that make the difference in what the power of the amp is, just to name a few from the lower to the more powerful. 1446, 2290, 2879. are the most common.
The 2879's will take more power in, for a higher out put.
For example a lot of amps with a built in driver section will be configured like this if it is say a 2 x 6 it will have 2 2290's driving 6 2879's.
Or in my case I have a straight 8 pill all 2879's I'm hitting it with a 75 watt dead key swinging to 240 pep so the amp is putting out just under 2,500 pep. hope this helps. It is a little confusing at first.
Oh yea the reason they are called pill's is they are round and white.FriedTater Thanks this. -
best radio like a cobra25 is a midland 5001, it is almost identical to the cobra 25, and has WAY better noise cancellation.

KillRoy did good,
Pills,Finals or whatever you slang name them are all transistors with varying wattage input and output tolerances.
Many knock the 2 pill (1446) box's for what ever "their"
reason ? but they are often very clean rigs making good power and great audio for those on a budgetkillroy Thanks this. -
Am a company driver and have really crappy coax on the truck and don't think the ant.s are much better. Will running a single ant., on the passenger side, work almost as well as duals?
-
Better. In order to get a dual antenna setup to work to it's full potential it is recommended that they be at least 9 feet apart. I would mount a single on the drivers side though because it won't get beat up by tree limbs and such as it will on the passenger side if running country roads and 2 lane highways. Also mirror mounts are somewhat directional so mounting driver side will give you more of a direction towards oncoming traffic instead of out the passenger side away from oncoming traffic. Just my $.02

Yes!! Get Good quality coax. Not the junk in most truck stops. A good Mini 8 is what you want. And a single antenna set up IMO is way better than two. Way much simpler to tune for low SWR's. And just a word of advice I learned the hard way. Put the antenna on the drivers side. You wont hit as much with it. I ripped one off on a two lane road once, low tree branch's and antennas don't mix well.
FriedTater Thanks this. -
Never run a single stick on the right side.
Mounted on the left allows for better control of what you smash into
