I recently got my Class A license and started looking for work. I fax'd out three applications this morning. One to TMC, one to USX, and also one to Werner Enterprises. I've heard people say they're all good companies to drive for.
One thing I liked about TMC was their offer to get you home on more weekends. I don't have to be home every weekend, but it would be nice.I'm not 100% sure that I'm thrilled to death about tarping loads, but I'd rather do that than sitting around at a terminal lumping freight.
How good is Werner Enterprises

If you can i would stay away from werner. there is a lot more negative about them and i went that route out of school myself and got left in a hotel for a week with no contact from the company and the day i said i'm leaving they said "oh we were gonna send you to dallas". just my .02 cents but it's up to you. good luck
-
Did you get that load?
-
no it wasnt a load, i was waiting for a trainer and as soon as i made contact and said i was going home they claimed they were gonna send me to dallas terminal but i was pretty mad at that point.
-
Just say NO to Werner.

Flatbedders at Werner are the ####### children of the company, I know, I use to be one. They've been threatening to kill the division for at least a decade now but it still hasn't gone away, although many of the drivers have. There were around 375 flatbedders there when I started in 02' and that has gone down to 100-125 last I heard.
Tarping. Werner tarps EVERYTHING. I had to tarp sewer pipe once. It had to be clean before they buried it in the ground and pumped sewage through it. Empty miles pay is half what your loaded is. They're newest trailers, except the Home Depot dedicated ones, are from 99' and it shows.
You'll get a 'newer' truck every three years or so since they sell them off at around 350,000 miles.
It's been awhile since I was with the company so some of my info might be outdated. I did learn alot since they haul darn near everything you can put on a skateboard. I'm with a smaller company now and like it much better. I'm actually treated like a driver and an asset to the company instead of just a number and a way for my dispatcher to get his bonus. -
TMC and Werner asked me to come to Orientation this weekend. I can't go to two places at one time, so I have to chose one.

Survey says...TMC. I think.
-
Choose tmc..they're 1000 x's better than Werner is!
