I'm currently a resident of SC with a plain jane drivers license to drive cars trucks (the 4 wheel kind) and a motorcycle.
In a couple of weeks I'll be taking a class to get my CDL.
I want to move back to NY to help take care of my aging Mom and Dad.
Once I get my CDL from SC, how hard will it be to convert it to NY? Will I have to take a road test again or what?

Should not need a road test again. Simple matter of taking your self into the DMV, filling out the little form and getting the new license. I have done this twice, once when I moved to Florida and once when I moved back to Wisconsin. The only test I had to take when I moved to Florida was the written hazmat. Didn't do that when I moved back to WI because I dropped the hazmat endorsement. Didn't feel like paying the extra for the background check since I wasn't planning on hauling hazmat anyway.

Thanks for the quick reply. Your answer makes life a lot easier for me. -
Not a problem man! It's really pretty painless . . . depending on how long you end up sitting at the DMV office waiting to do this!

Just don't get your HAZMAT endorsement in SC....you'll have to pay to get it all over again in NY.

Good call there BioDiesel! When I switched to Florida, it was pre-2001.

How hard to convert from SC to NY drivers license?
I would think pretty much if you can run people off the road, flip them off and cuss at them it won't be any problem at all... -
To Funny.
I think that is the NYC area. Most rural New Yorkers are friendly.
