Prime Inc. is the most strict on that. Don't even apply their because you won't be hired. Prime Inc. looks back well over 3 years.

Maybe you can get a niche job towing boats up and down the coast.

I had gaps in my work history. I was told to, basically, just tell the truth. Say you were 'working on a boat' for X amount of years and that you were self-employed for the rest. Verification for self-employment (was) 2 or 3 people saying you were, so no big deal.

I have gaps in my trucking employment. It doesn't look great, but it's not a show stopper. I have to explain why I wasn't working, which isn't right. It's none of their business. What is their business is my safety record, which is spotless.

My gaps are because I'm good with my money and I don't live check to check. I want to try and enjoy some of my life. For all I know, I die tomorrow. When I work, that's all I do. And because of that, employers see it as a strike against me, which is just wrong.

Some places want to see tax documents to verify self employment.
