The nice things about being close to a yard is if they are working on the truck you can go home. If you quit or are fired you don't have far to lug stuff home.
How important is it to pick a Co. with a terminal near my home?

also gotta worry about HOS if the terminal is that far away-you may end up on your 10 or 34 reset a short distance from the house.
-
But does that matter if they let you take the truck? I guess even if they did, you would still have to drive from the terminal to your house deadhead and for free, Right?

Another poor rookie that thinks he made a good decision to become a truck driver in the worst possible time to do so. Your worried about witch company to choose? It dont matter every one of the big companies you asked abouth and all the other big one will screw you one way or another. Read all the post on this web sit about all the companies you are considering. For every good one their are hundreds of bad ones. Why because trucking sucks now. Untill the economey turns around its going to stay that way. Sorry about your luck but trucking aint where its at any more.

Yeah, drop your trailer at the Pilot, and they'll drop it in a tow storage lot. Can you say "I need a com chek Mr. Dispatcher, for $800" ?

It all depends on how long you like riding on a bus and smelling the 10 or more thats been on the bus for two or three days without a shower. Yes, it will make you feel like you're sitting in a truck stop but you have an option to go back out side! Not so with the bus.
It all depends on if you have a safe place to park the truck and trailer as in your drive way or back 40 or if your town or city doesn't have a no truck parking law even the Tractor by its self. My town passed it but I'm grandfathered in.
It all depends on if you like sitting in a drivers lounge waiting on the truck to be serviced or repaired. Going home and taking time off while work is going on saves a lot of lost work time.
It all depends on if there is a nice secure area to park your car, pickup truck or bike so you can drive home however long or far it is to home and if you can afford the time and gas to do so.
It all depends on if the company is worth being days away and how they get you home!
To me the best reason is the service one. Why sit around waiting on a "days" long service waiting list when you can be at home waiting on a home cooked meal!
I loved being 5.5 miles from home! Even a blizzard couldn't keep me away!jtrnr1951 Thanks this. -
Roehl told me it didn't matter if there was a terminal in my state, because they give you home time seperate from other time. Any thoughts to the truth of this?
banjer picker Thanks this.
