How important is it to pick a Co. with a terminal near my home?

Ask them if in the yard getting a service and other repairs if you are getting paid? Now you will not get paid while repairs are being done on the road but they should pay for a motel room and maybe breakdown pay but not on the yard. THAT'S when I want to be home so that's why I've never driven for someone who was more than 3 hours from home. Bike sits on yard during warm months and P/U in cold! Always had a way home from the yard! Screw Greyhound!

Wow! If that is true it sounds as though they don't think of home time as a necessary evil, but actually want to do right by their drivers. Gonna have to look into Roehl, I see their trucks around here pretty regularly. I saw some threads about them but haven't read em' yet.

Thanks. You were saying just what I was thinking. Back in the 70s, you could drive OTR and then cash out in a few short years if you were smart with money. Now you just barely survive, and give up your life to do it.

Too many people think trucking is an easy way out or an escape. Maybe it is, depending on that individual's current state of affairs. Maybe these guys are broke and desperate. The OTR companies salivate to see them coming.

If I were young, and starting out looking for a career today, I'd look somewhere else. Computer database mgmt., software engineering, computer security, network systems engineer; those are good. OR paralegal, dental hygiene, nursing, radiology, accounting; these are good. I'm sure I've missed some, but trucking isn't one of them.

Trucking companies have always been sorry with zero morals in general, but with this recession they have dropped to new unthinkable lows in how they treat people.I always have a vehicle parked wherever I work because nothing lasts forever.
