I've been at Brampton for 15 years. We don't have enough work for all the drivers they hired. It never really picked up this summer.

That’s crazy and MB still has a ad looking for drivers on indeed for Brampton. i just saw it yesterday hopefully the new warehouse doesn’t leave you guys with no work down the line

Maybe they think the new drivers will go to the new DC in Oshawa. From what I've heard ,
MB is going to try and pay the workers less for the new DC. They'll still be in Unifor but will have a separate contract. Our contract is up next May so it's probably going to be a fight.

That's unfortunate. For us, covering overtime is like pulling teeth sometimes. Lots of guys won't touch a weekend shift. I can understand why, but then when too many guys are off it becomes a forcing situation, which everyone hates. Luckily for us, we've been doing line haul work to and from the Calgary DC. When it's slow they'll do up to 5-6 runs a week. None if too busy. We bring back the fry loads that originate in Ontario I believe.

I’m an owner operator but my neighbour just recently quit driving for Challenger Motor Freight. He said nothing is moving and drivers are quoting at an alarming rate.
He would come in to work and it was the same old story every day. Drivers just sitting around the yard waiting for freight.

Where are they going to go to find more work? Everyone is slow so a guy would be better to settle for less work than no work at all.

Yeah it seems very slow for O/O everywhere. I've been searching for a better company with more work than my current company and can't find anything better. With my current company we have 12 trucks going east (NY,NJ,PA). I do 1 to 2 trips per week, 1 is guaranteed but not really enough for me. Just went through a 20k repair bill and still trying to pay it off.

It’s real bad for everyone right now especially at the mega carriers we have o/o working 3 weeks in a month then they’re forced to take the last week in the month off and there only doing 1500 miles a week . Thank god one guy on nights here left for the city of toronto hauling trash . it’s only me and another guy now on nights because for the most part we are getting our weekly hours . Even though we’re just going around to customers and picking up empties then going back to the yard . The other night guy was told on wednesday don’t come in no work , which means you lose a days pay

Amazon freight has been keeping our company alive. Running 5 Toronto - Montreal per week. Rates are a mixed bag of beans, some good, some bad. But after everything we are in the green, bought 5 new tractors. Work has steadily been getting busier since April
