not sure how many suggested that you run team.i suggest that you do not.running solo is the only way to fly.you'll learn everything much quicker and develop your own "style" of driving, eliminating having the bad habits/whatever absorbed through osmosis via a team driver. you can develop all the bad habits/quirks/whatever all by yourself and be better off because you did.

i carry but i carry everywhere.be legal about it if you do.really, all you need to do is be cognizant of your surroundings and decline loads going to areas that you do not want to run to.I've never been to NY City.don't care to go and in fact i will not go unless it is in a car one day.I don't even go to the northeast other than harrisburg,pa.area infrequently at best.

the moral is pick your areas of operation and stay aware.you will be fine as there are so many more good people than bad out here.apparently you possess common sense as it is due to the fact you can drive a big truck.

I ran long haul for about a year and a half, and never had a co-driver (unless my cat counts as one). I loved it, and had a lot of good advice from the seasoned veterans on the road, along with the occasional sleazeballs and their oh so wonderful comments, as to be expected. Of course, safety was always a concern, and I had a few potentially catastrophic situations, but as long as you keep your wits about you, trust your gut, and carry some form of protection/defense (bear mace and starter fluid are my go-to "weapons"), you'll be ok. Feel free to message me if you have any more questions, I'm more than happy to help out a fellow driver :)
Hi real, boy howdy, you got that right. While flatbed has certain advantages, such as, mostly with flat bed deliveries, the people are usually waiting for your stuff, and not like van or reefer, "We'll call you when we need you", if ever. But tarping and chaining and strapping loads is no place for a lady, not to mention ,shifting loads and retightening straps and chains. Sorry ladies, but there are easier trucking jobs out there. Once, when I pulled containers, I was picking up a load of sticks(lumber) and while I was waiting, a driver was trying to tarp his flat bed load on a very windy day, and I could see he was losing the battle. He'd get one side covered and the other side would blow off, and he was obviously getting discouraged. It was painful to watch, and finally, I went over and helped him, he was very grateful. Choose wisely.
Sure there are easier trucking jobs out there, but, for me at least, all the physical crap and craziness makes it fun and rewarding. I go home and feel like I accomplished something each time I get the load there safely. Sure, I've had countless days where I feel like my body has had the crap kicked out of it, I look and probably smell as bad as I feel, I can play connect the dots with all my bruises, cuts, and welts, and just looking at a chain makes my body hurt even more, but I find it far more enjoyable than just holding a steering wheel. I'm a 5'0 tall heavy hauler, and call me crazy, but I've never had more fun in trucking than slinging chains with the big boys.

Haha sorry, I get a little passionate about things when people say I can't do things based on stereotypes. Breaking the stereotype is half the fun. The other half would have to be hauling 200ft long, 200,000+ lb loads with three pilot cars with a big s*** grin on my face haha

Hey you do what you gotta do. My youngest daughter is really petite. Smallest kid in her pre k class. But she's nicknamed Brave by the school staff, partly because of her impossibly curly hair and partly because she's never one to let the bigger kids push her around and tell her she's too small to do things. She's a tough little midget.

She's got the blood of some tough women who rode out the dust bowl and stayed put when so many fled to California during the depression.

Well, you're talking with what a girl like her becomes. Think you can handle that? Hahaha. It all starts with, "You can't climb that high up the tree!" "Oh yeah? Watch me!" ;)

HA, starter fluid, that's pretty good. I suppose if it works on them #### hornets, it will work on the perp's. My daughter is a little peanut too, and the business she is in, they love her. As I do,as well. Best of luck to ya. BTW, If you ever need a boost, listen to our good friend Jerry Reed, "East bound and down, loaded up and truckin'', we're gonna do what they say can't be done!"

She was still in diapers and figured out how to climb out of the old Columbia I used to drive for my old employer.

The truck blew it's transmission and had to be towed from Phoenix to El Paso. Her mother insisted I take her while I cleaned the truck out.

Sat her in the sleeper while I loaded stuff in my car and told her not to move. She had other ideas.
