I crossed at Port Huron, Michigan years ago. The hassle factor was way worse coming back into Michigan, than crossing into Canada.
Other than an occasional language barrier, and the different money, the experience wasn't too bad. Not something I would like a regular diet of, though.
How is it with canadian runs?

That's how this industry works... throw you into a situation you're not prepared for, then treat you like an idiot when you don't do it right.
I doubt most carriers consider that driving into a foreign country might require special knowledge or skill
... amd if it does, why didn't the driver prepare himself before going there and breaking the law? -
Yup. Argued with the safety dept at my last company for over an hour trying to inform them that Canadian HOS are NOT the same as the US, despite what they told us in training. They just kept saying that the 36 hour restart was the only difference.
Ended up having to take a photo of my Qualcomm clocks and email it to them.
