I live and drive in all areas of Texas and rarely have any problem making calls with sprint. I use a wifi box for my iPad from sprint and it pretty much sucks unless you are in a major metro area.

I've had sprint for about 3 years and I like it. Just root your phone to get free WiFi tether ;)

My wife & I ditched our smartphones last summer. Although it was tough at first, we eventually learned to live without-em. It just git to be too expensive. We now use industry standard flip phones with txt capability. I can't believe how much money we are saving

That's the ONLY complaint we have with hers. It seems to eat the battery quickly. BUT, other than that, She can do alot more easier than I can with my EVO, Hers has service when mine doesn't, Etc... Just an opinion ! :)

I pay $45/mo for my phone, unlimited text and unlimited minutes. It is not a smart phone. I get coverage almost everywhere.
It is the Wal Mart prepaid thing, Straight Talk. I have a cheapy flip phone, but you can also pay to get an Android phone and I think even I Phones are going to be made soon for it, if they haven't already been made for it.

For my internet, I pay $20/mo for 1GB or you can pay $35/mo for 2GB for $55/mo for 5GB
and this is Virgin Mobile internet. I stick the modem thing into the USB port and it finds a signal. Sometimes the signal is not so great, sometimes it is, but I get coverage 95% of places east of I35. It is not super fast. Sometimes I can stream video, sometimes it streams really slow and has to load and buffer.
They run off of Sprint's data network.

But for just looking at load boards or emails, or facebook, well it works for that.
The $35/mo 2GB plan works well for me, I don't ever use it all up in a month.
So $80/mo for phone and internet. Not bad.

My phone is T-Mobile on a family account, and very basic. 10 bucks a month.

For internet in the truck I use Verizon, a 3G MyFi2200.
My first plan was 10GB data for $80 per month ($10 per GB over that), but I recently upgraded to a 20GB plan for $130 per month.
Much better deal, as I use Netflix quite a bit and I always went over 10GB.
They don't have an unlimited plan, but 20GB should be plenty. In nearly 2 years I have gone over that only once.

The coverage is very good. I may not have my cell phone, but I nearly always seem to have an internet connection (although it is sometimes slow).
I think I have been without anything for a night here and there, but it is so very seldom.

I haven't had Sprint for cell phone service since 2008. I switched to AT&T to get iphones in 2009 and never looked back. I have maintained a Sprint contract for a mobile aircard for the laptop. That has never been a mistake. I pay around $100/month to have unlimited data use on it 3G/4G. 4G coverage does kind of suck right now but I keep getting e-mails saying they are still expanding the network. When you do get 4G its pretty #### fast. For example, I'm in E St. Louis at the Pilot and my 4G is twice as fast as the Pilot wifi. My 3G works in "most" places. Sometimes way out in the boonies I can't get a signal but I just get on my iphone or find something else to do. I prefer the aircard to depending on a phone for my computer because its a separate piece of equipment. The aircard also makes life fun and stuns shippers/receivers with stupid rules sometimes. I went to a shipper in Jackson, TN about a month ago that required the driver to sit in their detention cell....uh I mean driver lounge lol! Well they had all the rules that you had to sign saying cell phone use was prohibited. So I just grabbed the laptop from the truck and plugged it into their wall and got on the web. The fat lady at the window said "Hey" and looked at me but she was speechless. I just stared until she sat back down and then went back to my surfing. Needless to say it made my 1.5 hour wait there pass much quicker! :)

Sometimes you could also have a very good signal, but there may be hundreds or thousands of people all using the same tower at the same time, and that really bottlenecks your speed.
I find I get faster service in areas that are much less populated, and at times of day/night where not very many people are likely to be using it. Like in the middle of the night.

OK thanks guys I guess I will continue to get ripped off by Verizon until another company comes along and offers good coverage too that may create competition for Verizon to lower their prices. On the news they say that over half of the US population owns cell phones now so Verizon doesn't have to charge so much it isn't like cellphones are going anywhere. Until satellite phones are common I suppose but Verizon can offer that service too. I know that Verizon works well I always can talk on the phone and access the internet all over the US except for a small town in Arkansas I don't think they have any towers since everything goes dead there. I must be the only person in the world who uses a lot of data on the road. I like streaming Netflix and Hulu which adds up to 18 GB per month of data which to me isn't a lot since at home before I was a trucker I would use 40GB per month.

You're paying $300 a month for ONE phone and a Mi-Fi device?? Yikes! My husband and I both have Android Smart Phones with unlimited talk & text and a Mi-Fi with 10 G of data and we pay @ $185.00 a month. Have you checked with Verizon to see if you qualify for a discount? We get a 20% discount because my husband's employer is listed as a qualified company.

As far as Sprint - I personally do not care for their service. I could never get a decent signal no matter how close I was to a cell tower.
