Im in the midwest looking to possibly move the family down south. Starting my research now. Anybody know how the job market is down in florida, gulf side, for home every night drivers?? This weather is getting out of control up here, it's snowing today...Up here, the average is around $22-27 per hour at most companies.. How is the average pay down there? What about cost of living? I might have the option to transfer to Florida with my current company, but haven't found out the pay yet.

The cost living in Pensacola is cheaper the most. Just hard to find a good job. Hard to get freight coming out of Florida. You would have run over the the road. Or buy your own truck. Small companies pay very little.

I'm out of Pensacola and spend most of my time running regional, south east and midwest. A lot of big paper manufacturing like International paper and Georgia Pacfic in south AL, plus lots of beer runs between Jacksonville and Mobile. I average between $900 and $1,100 a week and home between 10 to 14 days.

Local work sucks, pays between $10 to $15 and hour and only gets worse the farther south you go. If you want to stay local I would look around Mobile, Gulfport, or New Orleans, pay is a little better with the same cost of living. If you know where you want to live check indeed.com and Craigslist for local jobs, that might help give you a better idea of pay between places.

Edit - Just missed a couple of points in your op, I guess if you can transfer from your old job check the cost of living where the new job is with what they are willing to pay. Personally anything below $20 an hour you would be better off going with someone else. Good luck!

Thanks yea I was looking around on Craigslist for the hell of it in Tampa area and WOW it seems like class A jobs paying 15$ per hour is the norm around there. That's pretty sad. How would I afford a jet ski or a boat ? Lol jk

Depends on area, and how hard you want to work... Southeastern pays about 21/hr to start, and you work about 60hours a week. Local pay is somewhat uniform, it's all based on cost of living in the area

Find a friend an give him gas money. Money pit owning a boat. Best day owning a boat is selling it.

I know the weather sucks, but man I think the upper midwest is the place to be for trucking. When I worked at Van Wyk I got just a taste of the regional freight out there when the local lifers weren't available and the rates and the customers were great; even the grocery warehouses!
