I think they think I hate southern people. Lol. Couldn't be more right!!!! Lol. Just kidding. But there's a mentality among some of the companies down south that I don't get. Actual conversation: what do you pay?
"Recruiter": you'll average out to about $500 a week.
Me: that's it!?!?
Recruiter: what do you mean "that's it"?
Me: I can't live off of $500 a week.
Recruiter: if you need more than $500 a week, you're living above your means, boy.
Can you imagine? I've had other conversations with recruiters down there when I stayed in Florida.
How late for home time are you?

The only company I've worked for that didn't get me home on the day I had requested had their truck returned to their yard that day, Enterprise picked me up, and I went to work elsewhere the following week. One way or another, I will be home when I need to be.
I don't ask for time off. I tell them when I'll be off, and it is up to them to make the necessary plans. Once you let a company or a dispatcher walk on you, they'll continue pushing you around to see how far they can push you.Calregon Thanks this. -
I deliver the load when requested. They get me home when requested.

I was a day late once but it was consignee fault. Their crew failed a drug test at a job site so after running out my clock waiting to see what to do I had to run to their warehouse and didn't have enough to get home.

I also live in ORYGUN. I drive for Leavitts. I am a fairly new driver. Also I know a few drivers that live out of state and still get home every weekend. From what I hear the driver tells the company what he wants and how often he wants/ needs to get home. They will tell you your options and then its up to you. I personally run Or, Wa, and into Canada. A few times to Ca,. I have made it home every weekend. And been off what ever days I have asked for. I have never been treated so well by any company in any other industry. ( I have not been lied to) I really like it here. It seems like they really want the drivers to be happy... Good people.
Lepton1, polarisryan and tsavory Thank this. -
We can hope more companies start acting that way or all the good drivers will just give up and do something else.
Unless its more of a passion than job then they just move or become o\o but way things are going the last may become way harder to do. -

I've been late on my home time once in a year and a half due to a consignee problem which i could have dropped it at the yard and gone home, but i didn't have anything important going on so i sat on it. i've never given more than 2 weeks notice and i've never reminded them about upcoming hometime. Going on a year and a half at Systems.
For what it's worth in regards to moving over to Leavitts My Uncle with 38 yrs exp. open decking highly recommended them to me if i'm going to keep open decking as a company driver.polarisryan Thanks this.
